Smoketown Fresh Stop Market
MESSAGE FROM CO-PASTORS SHIRLEY AND GEORGE BURKE: Fresh Stop Markets have given Coke Memorial UMC a bridge to interact with the Smoketown community in an innovative & practical way. This partnership is bringing hope, wellness and inspiration to an area that was a food desert. The newsletter, samples from the chefs, tips & recipes shared broadens the mind & enhances the taste buds in creative food preparation. The affordability of the beautiful produce proves to be an economic win-win for the farmers & consumers alike. Our church members are excited about the vitality it has brought to our church campus as we meet a real need & new faces in the community. As co-pastors, we are thrilled to live out our call to serve our church and the community that our church is a part of. We are building new relationships with community leaders & residents who care about the future of Smoketown in particular and our fair city in general. To God be the glory!

Meet our Fresh Stop Market Leaders for 2018
Day of Leaders: Pastors Shirley and George Burke. Shirley and George Burke are pastors at Coke Memorial UMC. They are the founders of the Smoketown Fresh Stop Market and can be seen at every Market behind the cauliflower, lettuce or kohlrabi, with grace. This dynamic duo believes in the power, impact, and positive ripple effects this Market has had, and continues to have, beyond the dinner table, including a new Girl Scout Troupe, hosted at Coke.
Chef Liaison: Nikkia Rhodes
Farmer Liaison: Mark Hoosier
Check-in Leader: Rhoda Beeler Chappell
Ms. Rhoda has been the check-in leader since Day One, and is one of the founding members of the Smoketown Fresh Stop Market. She is actively involved in her beloved Coke Memorial UMC, a historic African American Church in the middle of the Smoketown Neighborhood. She is a proud grandmother and when she is not checking you in to get your veggies, she works hard at Metrosafe EMA.
